Phil Wiggins & Eleanor Ellis

DC native Phil Wiggins is one of America’s foremost blues harmonica players. With over 3 decades as half of the acclaimed Piedmont blues duo Cephas & Wiggins, Wiggins cemented his place in music history. He has contributed music and appeared in films including Matewan and Blues Houseparty, performed in the play Polk County (winner of the Charles McArthur Award for Outstanding New Musical), served as musical director for theatrical productions, and taught. Wiggins continues to collaborate with musicians including Corey Harris, The Chesapeake Sheiks, Nat Reese, and many others.

Singer/guitarist Eleanor Ellis began her musical career in bluegrass and folk music, before transitioning to Piedmont blues. She has traveled and played with the late gospel street singer Flora Molton and bluesman Archie Edwards, and accompanied Delta Blues great Eugene Powell. One of the most significant women in the acoustic country and Piedmont blues genre, she is a founding member of the DC Blues Society and the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation, has written about the blues for several publications, and is producer and editor of the video documentary Blues Houseparty. She has numerous recordings, and has performed across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
