Get Out

Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative social commentary on race relations in America, Get Out tells the story of a young African-American man who visits his white girlfriend’s family estate and becomes ensnared in the more sinister, real reason for the invitation.
Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods). At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
At the 90th Academy Awards, Get Out was nominated for four awards and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In his directorial debut, comedian-turned-filmmaker Jordan Peele (Key & Peele) became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, as well as the first African American to be nominated for producing, writing and directing in the same year. In his review, film critic Richard Roeper says "the real star of the film is writer-director Jordan Peele, who has created a work that addresses the myriad levels of racism, pays homage to some great horror films, carves out its own creative path, has a distinctive visual style—and is flat-out funny as well.”
